The Law of 10x10

Multitasking is a skill that just over 50% of the population will have it that they’ve mastered, while the other half of the population simply cannot do.  I don’t want to get into the gender argument, but one thing I do know for certain is that a business which does not multi-task is never going to be the success its owner dreamed it to be.

Simply “being good at what you do” is not a strategy for building a business.  Unless you master additional skills, particularly marketing, sales, communication and financial control, you’ll never get off the starting block.

That much is surely obvious .. However how hard do business owners find it to keep all their plates spinning at the same time ? 

One thing to bear in mind is the Law of 10 x 10.  What this states is that you have 2 alternatives to achieve 100% of the result which you want to achieve.  Either you can rely on one single strategy to deliver the result you want, 100% of the time.  Or alternatively you can pick 10 different strategies, each of which you expect to deliver 10% of the whole result, and you work them concurrently.

What happens if your single strategy fails (and let’s not kid ourselves, strategies do).  Instead of getting 100% of the result you get nothing.

Now if you have two or three of your 10 strategies don’t work and you have 7 or 8 that do, you can be happy that 70 – 80% of your result is being achieved while you get to work on making those rogue 2 or 3 strategies better.

It’s all about the spreading of risk .. and the core skill you need as a business owner to make it work is the ability to plan and to multitask … as well of course as to delegate.

So take a look at one aspect of your business … let’s say your marketing.  Which camp are you closer to, the 100 x 1 or the 10×10 ? If you’re too reliant on too few strategies to get you the growth you need this year, now is the time to act.
